“I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
One of the young women I disciple came to me in tears. She was so upset, our first moments together were spent calming her down so I could understand what she was saying!
Once the crying stopped, she was able to share her fear that the situation she was in would never change. “Will this ever end?” was the question she wanted me to answer with a definite “YES!”
But I really couldn’t assure her that this situation would stop. Quite honestly, it could be something that she would deal with for a long time.
What did she need to think on to bring hope? As I prayed for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, the Lord brought to mind Philippians 1:6.
Although I couldn’t assure her that her situation would change, I could assure her that her response TO it would change as she continued to journey with the Lord.
It’s always amazing to me how a few words of biblical encouragement can totally transform an anxious heart to one of peace. God’s Word truly does transform.
As a discipler, what biblical truth do I need to think on instead of the fear that is circulating in me? What about you? What are you thinking on?
As we continue to encourage and walk with those we disciple, as we multiply, may we think on and point to biblical truths that bring lasting change.
